We are a family run business based in North Western Oregon, USA. We have a special interest in snakes, reptiles and amphibians, although we concentrate mainly on our ever growing collection of amazing Garter Snakes. We started out quite by accident in early 2008 when a Garter Snake hobbyist decided he was letting go of his collection of Garter Snakes because of a move away. We decided that the opportunity of keeping so many snakes was an exciting prospect; so gratefully accepted his offer of re-homing his beloved Herps. After all we had spent many days out and about in Oregon admiring the beautiful Garters out in their natural habitat. When we received the collection of Garter Snakes they had obviously been well kept, but were a mix and match bunch, which we have had great fun in trying to get an accurate fix on who is who and what is what. We didn’t exactly get a full breeding history with these snakes so have decided that we will start fresh. What we do know is that none of the snakes we received had been siblings. So genetically this was better for the snakes and us. Our first babies where born last year from a pair of North Western Garters, one of which was wild caught sick in our back yard the same month so we housed her with a lonely male after she took a shine to him from a nearby tank. The resulting love match was a small brood of 7 brown NW Garter Snakes, with one of these being born with a red stripe/phase. The shock of having a red striped Garter in the litter prompted us to wonder if our female had actually paired up with a previous male while out in the wild. We are pretty much new to the whole breeding circle and have adopted the ‘we want to learn more’ approach to our new found hobby and passion; Garter Snakes. So as we move along over the coming months we hope to learn a lot more from our fellow breeders, and possibly share tips and findings. We are starting to build our first Garter family trees so this is a fun time for us, as these will be a great help to our customers and ourselves. We appreciate that a project like this will take time, and realize that it will be some months or even years before these family trees become more useful. This inventory is going to get a lot larger over the coming months and years, our current Garters on display are carefully shipped anywhere in the USA overnight, with a heat pad.
